If you run a chalet in Morzine, snow is the ultimate double-edged sword

After a bit of a patchy start to Christmas week, the Weather gods have more than made up for it with an almighty dump of snow in the last 3 days. Our chalet looks like a fairytale snow cabin now. Things are looking good for the end of this week when more snow is due and we absolutely love it. Our guests are happy and that makes us happy!

However…

for those of us who live and work in the Morzine chalet business, snow can be a bit of a double edged sword. It is our lifeblood and we love it when it falls, but it also means we have to move it, by hand! Clearing our driveway often takes an hour in the morning (which means a very early start for our chalet team) and everything just takes longer in the snow. Stranded cars, snow chains and ice all make travel much slower. This can be very frustrating when you have only got 2 hours to go skiing and you spend half of it in the car stuck behind a foreign car without snow tyres!

But we can’t complain really, we have got this amazing adventure park on our back doorstep and as I write this, I am looking at a beautiful white mountain vista that makes me giddy with excitement for the day ahead. Right, time to get on with clearing the driveway so I can get my car out….
