Avoriaz to trial a new human-powered chairlift

April 1st, 2016 News

In a bid to reduce the energy usage involved in skiing, Avoriaz is trialling a new human powered chairlift. 100 volunteers will run in 20 giant hamster wheels for 1 hour at a time (followed by a 4-hour break) in an attempt to get fit and also save the planet. The trial will last for the rest of the 2016-17 season on the Lechere chairlift which runs from the Lindarets bowl to the bottom of the Mosettes chairlift.

This chair is a very slow, old 2 man lift so it is thought to be ideal for the trial as skiiers and boarders will probably not notice the difference in speed

UPDATE (2nd April 2016): In case you hadn’t worked out, this was in fact an April fool. As much as we would love it to be true, it’s a completely mental idea & will almost certainly never happen. Or will it…. ?
