The Amazon and much of Australia up in flames, the polar ice caps melting, temperatures here in the Alps rising at almost twice the global average, with glaciers disappearing and snow cover predicted to shrink by 35% by 2035. It’s clear that our planet is suffering a climate emergency, which requires immediate and radical action by governments, industry and business across the world.
We believe it is the responsibility (and obligation) of businesses, like AliKats, to do whatever they can to preserve this earth for our future generations. Business has a vital role to play in helping limit global warming and building the net-zero carbon economy of the future. We also believe that tourism, which for too long has been too large a contributor of harmful impact, can with proper management become part of the solution.
That’s why, together with a group of other businesses, organisations and individuals in the tourism industries, we are declaring a climate emergency, as part of the Tourism Declares initiative. We’re committed to setting a science-based emission reduction target to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions at the pace and scale that science says is necessary to limit global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C.
