Morzine
Morzine is characterised by charming chalets, with not a high-rise in sight.
It is a working mountain town, not just a ski resort so is filled with personality.
There are plenty of shops, boulangeries, patisseries and fromageries to browse.
You will find lots of restaurants serving great local Savoyard fare from fondue to tartiflette and many more.
It has a buzzing nightlife; pubs, clubs, wine bars, live music, DJs and festivals.
The Morzine Penguins Ice-hockey team play in France’s top league every Wednesday – which makes an interesting watch.
Avoriaz
Avoriaz is Morzine’s purpose built younger brother, sitting on the cliffs above at 1800m.
It has one of the best snow records in France (average of 8m per season).
What it lacks in Alpine charm, it makes up for with plenty of skiing terrain.
It is the best entry point to the 650km of linked pistes that make up the Portes du Soleil.
