Our audacious goal to invest €1 million in environmental protection by 2035

November 8th, 2024 News

We are taking our Climate Action Plan further with a renewed 10-year goal to invest €1 million in environmental protection. Find out what this means for the planet, our guests and team.

A bigger goal for a better future

Our purpose at AliKats is clear: to create joyful mountain experiences for all, while safeguarding the health of the planet. Transforming our ski chalet business into an eco-friendly operation has been no small task, especially in the industry of snow and mountain holidays, which paradoxically impacts the very environment it relies upon. Our climate action plan includes renewable energy, zero food waste catering, train travel intensives, an opt-in policy to reduce hot tub use and working with local and industry associations to reduce impact.

Now we are increasing our efforts, with an ambitious plan to invest €1 million in environmental protection by 2035. This is achievable and to make this happen – the AliKats’ team has signed a charter to deliver this through a multitude of focused efforts.

Why have we created this goal?

We see environmental sustainability as the most pressing need of our time. With threats like global warming, rising sea levels, droughts, wildfires and unpredictable weather patterns, we are committed to setting and achieving goals to help slow down these consequences and protect our planet for future generations. Our aim is to create a business model that restores and builds rather than exploits and destroys. Adopting a more holistic economic view, we wish to channel our resources towards the health of the planet and its inhabitants – to put life at the centre of our economic design.

Why is putting a monetary figure on our goal important?

Building a system that values regeneration and life over monetary wealth and greed, means finding ways to channel, evolve and measure in the current economic framework in which we exist.

While financial models have traditionally prioritized short-term gains over long-term sustainability, we have set this goal to ensure sustainability remains at the heart of our efforts. Measuring our environmental investment in monetary terms, enables us to build up resilient environmental practices and projects, and ensure money is directed towards regenerative processes as opposed to activity that comes at the detriment of society and the environment.

How will €1 million be invested into environmental protection?

AliKats will invest €1 million in environmental protection through a multitude of focussed efforts across the business over the next 10 years. While donations to trusted environmental associations will play a role, most of the investment will come through embedding sustainable practices across the business. These include running a zero food waste business; employee hours spent volunteering with environmental and conservation projects; employee hours spend training and working on sustainable activity within the business (such as repairing goods and sorting waste for recycling); procurement of sustainable products over toxic and environmentally harmful products. Other activities include guest initiatives, such as free electric car charging at the chalets and discounts awarded to guests who choose to have a greener holiday by taking the train, eating vegetarian food and opting out of hot tub use.

Train to Morzine

Generous Rewards for Green Choices

AliKats believes that every small step towards a greener holiday makes a big difference. That’s why the company is offering a range of rewards to encourage guests to reduce their environmental impact:

Catching the train offer – 10% holiday discount at anytime

If you take the train to Morzine to come and stay with us, we’ll give you 10% off the price of your accommodation. This is applicable at any time of year, for any chalet booking with AliKats. Train travel can be expensive and we hope this discount will help our guests to be able to afford to travel by train. Aside from this offer, guests who opt for train travel can also receive a wide range of discounts on Morzine services, including ski lessons and train station to chalet transfers, through the AlpinExpress Pass.

Green Holiday Offer

For those willing to go further, the ‘Green Holiday Offer’ provides up to 20% off chalet bookings during specific weeks. To qualify, guests must travel by train, adopt a plant-based diet for the week, and opt out of using the hot tub. For the weeks of January 11/12 and 18/19 2025, AliKats is offering a 20% discount on both catered and self-catered holidays. Guests staying in self-catered chalets can also receive a 15% discount for choosing AliKats’ five-day vegetarian meal package during the weeks of March 14/15 and 21/22 2025.
