Things to do this summer
Hit the trails with an e-mountain bike
If you want to explore all the trails of the Portes du Soleil without spending time on the lifts, or seek to escape the well ridden path but without all the up hill effort, an Electric Mountain Bike is a smart option. Like traditional mountain bikes, e-mountain bikes are built with suspension and rugged frames that can handle rocks and roots, so you can count on them to keep rolling on those big rides.
Having declared itself ‘Un territoire pionner du E-Bike’ the Portes du Soleil is making real of its claim, with investment in its e-bike infrastructure with more trails and charging points around the resort. The area now offers 43 developed trails, or 350 km marked out paths specifically for this practice. The PDS website is now loaded up with maps and route information. Similar to skiing, the trails are marked green, blue, red and black for easy, medium, difficult and advanced.
In Morzine you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the variety of mountain bikes for hire. Get sorted for your e-bike adventure with our complete list of recommended bike rental shops, guides and instructors. Just remember to reserve your bike and protective gear ahead of your arrival, as this is set to be a booming sport this summer!

The New 4-season Luge
Love to luge? Well the Portes du Soleil has got you covered. A very exciting new luge has opened up in Les Gets. Open all year round, this toboggan on rails can be boarded at the Perrières car park. The track is 1100m long with a drop of 104m and an average descent of 14.50%! Bends, drops, turns and speeds up to 40 km/h guarantee thrills.
Fishing courses
Jim Fishing Guide, is a professional fishing instructor, who seeks to introduce more people to the exceptional fishing territory, lush flora and fauna and breathtaking landscapes of the Haute-Savoie. Understanding how fish work according to seasonality, knowing how to read a river, discovering or improving a particular fishing technique, are all skills that he teaches at the water’s edge. Along the Dranse river than runs from the mountains, through Morzine and into Lake Geneva, discover the art of trout fishing through different techniques using flies, nymphs, lures and natural baits. We couldn’t really think of a better gift for an amateur or keen fisherman looking to try fishing in a new territory.
Nature at Nyon
Accessed via a pleasurable ride on the Nyon cable car, the plateau of Nyon now offers a host of child-friendly nature experiences – a shepherds maze, an educational treasure hunt around the mountain pastures, and the inventive ‘Le Monde du Jacquotte’. Jacquotte is a very clever hen who, accompanied by nature expert Éric Blanchot, teaches kids about life and biodiversity in the mountains. Young nature lovers will enjoy feeding the animals.
Horse trekking in the mountains
Morzine equitation offers ½ day and full day rides through mountain valleys, pastures and trails, including rides up to Nyon and Les Lindarets. The Nyon ride includes a ridge crossing over the Les Gets ski pistes and lunch at the magnificent lake of Nyon Guérin, before trekking back to Morzine via the forest; whilst the Les Lindarets option includes an ascent through the mountain pastures towards the Croix des Combes then the Massif de La Joux Verte, to access Lindarets via the forest, with a barbecue lunch at the foot of a waterfall. For those with more time to spare, a new concept, a 3 or 4 day hike (6 hours of riding with the horses transported to the start of the ride each day) is a fantastic way to explore the region for horse riding enthusiasts.

Outdoor Dining and Drinks
Whilst there is always loads to do in Morzine, sometimes it is good to sip a beer in the sun or spend a relaxed lunch on a terrace where grown ups can chat and the kids can play. Here are our top picks of where to dine or drink this summer.
The Woodyard
A relatively new addition to our food and drink scene, this taproom and restaurant offers a thirst-quenching menu of brewed on the premises Ibex beers, as well as delicious tapas plates for sharing. Situated in Montriond, it is in a great spot for a mid-walk beer when exploring the Dranse river trails from Morzine by foot or bike. The sunny terrace looks out onto the woods, away from the roads, so kids can play safely.
Solide cafe
Solide, located on Rue du Bourg in the centre of the village, serves up hot beverages, a yummy range of homemade cakes and a seasonal lunch menu. With a cosy indoor space for cooler days and a small sunny terrace, its great for a light lunch when you’re heading out to the pool or for afternoon adventures.
Le Tremplin
Probably Morzine’s most famous apres spot in winter, Le Tremplin is opening its doors in a new fashion this summer. Camp Tremplin will be a pop-up, festival-style venue at the bottom of the Pleney. Expect the same friendly atmosphere, apres-velo live music events and a huge stretch tent, which opens from Saturday 6th July. The vibe will be very relaxed, with informal seating within an enclosed space (to keep the little ones contained!), plus a fresh BBQ each day. Hours will be 9am – 8pm until mid-September, with live acoustic performances from midday to 4pm, followed by DJs from until 8pm on most days. Keep an eye on the venue’s website for the music line up.
Coup de Coeur
Although not new, this wine bar is not one to be missed by wine fans, especially as the wine list has once again won a spot in the Wine Bar category at the prestigious Terre du vins awards. Here you can drink by the glass or bottle from a dynamic wine list from across France. A favourite spot to sit in the centre of all the action in Morzine, with a terrace out the back where parents can sip wine (beer, hot and cold beverages) and kids can run around the pedestrianised tourist square.
Hotel du Lac
Offering an impressive cocktail list and an exciting, non-traditional food menu of seasonal mountain flavours, Hotel du Lac has become a popular lakeside venue for locals and holidaymakers alike. Pop in for a beer on your walk around the lake, join on Sunday for live music and barbecue vibes or book a table for a stylish evening with friends. They also provide shuttle services to and from the restaurant, so ring up and book so you don’t have to drive!
L’Auberge du Bout du Lac
L’Auberge du Bout du Lac is a great lunch or dinner option if you are craving Savoyard cuisine and a tranquil setting. Sit on the sweeping terrace to enjoy stunning views of Lake Montriond and dishes such as perch fillet, fresh summer salads or aged beef with morels (mushrooms), topped off with a delicious slice of Tarte aux myrtilles. You’ll find the restaurant sign posted from the far end of the lake when arriving from Morzine.
