Throughout the summer, Morzine is a haven for mountain bikers, hikers, road cyclists and families, all here to experience an active holiday amongst the stunning scenery of the Alps.
Restaurant terraces open up for alfresco dining and the town celebrates a host of festivals, with live music and activities for all ages. Meanwhile, just outside of the town, you can relax and wile away the hours swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking and picnicking at the beautiful Lac Montriond.
Morzine in summer really is an unbeatable destination. In fact, and despite our love of snow, we would go as far as to say it is our favourite time of year in the mountains.
Morzine is the perfect access point for riding the many world class enduro, downhill, and cross-country trails of the Portes du Soleil. Beginners will also find plenty of gentle areas and green runs. In the town you will find numerous bike and rental shops, with highly experienced mechanics for all your equipment needs.
For those that prefer tarmac to trail, Morzine is the starting point for many popular climbs, including several great cols tackled by the cyclists of the Tour de France. Another option: riding around Lake Geneva offers different scenery and a more leisurely ride than the mountain cols.
Hiking is another great way to experience the stunning beauty of the French Alps. The lift system makes high peaks and routes further afield more accessible. Forests, lakes, waterfalls, rivers, lush valleys and panoramic viewpoints: there is so much terrain and so many routes to choose from, it would be possible to hike a different trail every day of the summer.
While the surrounding mountains are home to a whole range of adventurous activities, Morzine itself has no shortage of things to do. There’s an excellent swimming complex with outdoor pools, splash pool, slides and play area for children. You will also find pony trekking and a rope course down by the river.
There may still be snow on the mountains in June and early July, but don’t be fooled into thinking it is cool in the mountains in summer. Whilst this is the season where the mountains open up to all types of adventurous sports, it is also the season of barbecues, lazy days at the lake and drinks in the sun. You will need to pack T-shirts, shorts, sun hats and plenty of sun cream.
Morzine sits at the heart of the vast Portes du Soleil mountain range; a Mecca for alpine sports and home to the biggest mountain bike park in Europe.
An extensive network of lifts take hikers, mountain bikers and picnickers high up onto the trails amidst the great peaks, forests and valleys of the region.
AliKats is part of the Multi Pass scheme. At €2 per day this gives you access to over 50 free and discounted activities around the Portes du Soleil. This includes 22 mountain ski lifts, Morzine’s swimming pool, bathing lakes in Les Gets and Montriond, the Morzine ice rink, tennis courts, mini-golf, the petit trains and local buses connecting the villages in the area.
No one wants to spend a large chunk of their holiday time travelling when it could be enjoyed on the mountain. Morzine’s location and transport connections make getting here a breeze.
