Experience Winter in Morzine

Unbeatable skiing in the French Alps

Situated in the French Alps, Morzine is both a ski resort and a typical Savoyard town in the heart of one of the largest interlinked ski areas in the world: the immense Portes du Soleil with over 650 km of pistes.

The excellent infrastructure of comfortable, modern lifts spans the French-Swiss border and brings together 12 resorts. This special ski domain offers skiers and snowboarders an unparalleled opportunity to ski a great variety of terrain in an unspoilt natural area, where development is being carefully handled to preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the mountainside.

Skiing without borders

If you enjoy exploring different places, cultures and food (especially cheese!): The Portes du Soleil offers the chance to explore a vast region by skis or snowboard!

Have a French pastry for breakfast and a Swiss fondue for lunch; ski with views that span from Lake Geneva to the incredible Mont Blanc; discover resorts which still hold their charm as traditional mountain farming villages like Abondance, which is home to the delicious and renowned French cheese of the same name.

The 12 resorts hold some wonderful discoveries and perfectly fuse Alpine charm with contemporary facilities and attractions. Here you can eat traditional mountain fayre in a cosy mountainside restaurant before skiing to La Folie Douce in Avoriaz to finish the day dancing in your ski boots.

Terrain for all abilities and styles of skiing

The Portes du Soleil has plentiful skiing for all ability levels and styles. All the main ski areas reached from Morzine – Avoriaz, Morzine-Les Gets and Les Lindarets – boast a huge variety of terrain and facilities for kids and beginners through to intermediate and expert skiers.

So although Morzine is a family friendly resort, it is also the training ground for a great number of snow sport world champions, including downhill, telemark and freeride skiers. The Portes du Soeil pass [link to ski pass page] provides access to around 308 slopes including 33 black, 105 red, 131 blue and 39 green, along with 30 snowparks, boardercross and ski-cross areas.

Snow conditions

The Portes du Soleil has a unique microclimate due to its position in the northern Alps, midway between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. This explains why the ski area benefits from better snow coverage than some of the higher resorts in the Alps. From mid-November to the end of April the resort receives on average around 8 m of snow per year. To supplement snowfall, the ski area is equipped with state of the art snow making facilities.
