Why Morzine in summer is perfect for toddler holidays
If you’re looking for a toddler-friendly holiday in France, your first thoughts might be Eurocamp or an all-inclusive beach resort, but if you seek privacy, independence and a taste of adventure, Morzine is a great choice. This pretty village in the French Alps boasts fabulous splash pools and lake beaches, plus a world of mini adventures from tree rope courses to play parks and family focussed festivals. Read on to discover why it’s such a great place for a family holiday with toddlers.
1) Amazing value with the Multi Pass
The Multi Pass is an excellent initiative that makes a wide range of fun activities easily accessible for families. For €4 per day, the pass gives you access to more than 70 activities and attractions across the 12 Portes du Soleil resorts, including pedestrian lift access, swimming pools, lakes and leisure areas, tennis, ice rinks, mini-golf, summer luge, little tourist trains, and plenty more family-friendly ways to explore the mountains. With such excellent value, families can try new activities everyday, and still go to the pool and catch the ‘petite train’ around town.
2) Splash areas and pools aplenty
There are plenty of options for splashing around in the sunshine in Morzine in summer:
Morzine Swimming Pool
The outdoor pool complex is fantastic for families and included with the summer Multi Pass. There’s a toddler splash zone with fountains and water features, a shallow pool (up to 1.10m), a bouncy castle and a café for snacks. For older children and adults, there’s an Olympic-sized pool, a large slide, plus table tennis and a volleyball court. Indoors, you’ll also find a 25m pool, a teaching pool and a second toddler splash pool.
Montriond Lake
A local favourite and one of the most beautiful spots in the area, Lake Montriond is a stunning natural swimming spot surrounded by dramatic cliffs and trees. There’s a shallow lake with a small sandy beach which is ideal for little ones, and supervised in summer. Toilets and a cafe selling ice creams and light meals is nearby. Kayak rentals are available for those who want to explore further.
Aquariaz, Avoriaz
A lush, plant-filled indoor water park that’s perfect when the weather turns on you or you simply fancy something different. There’s loads here: slides, rapids, climbing walls and an outdoor jacuzzi with mountain views, but the toddler pool, with its fountains, seesaw and slides, gives toddlers hours of fun.
3) Adventure in abundance
Here are a few of our favourite adventures with little ones in Morzine:
The Goat Village, Les Lindarets
This charming little mountain village feels like something out of a storybook, with old wooden chalets and goats wandering freely through the streets. Kids love getting close to the tame goats. It’s also a fun trip up the mountain. Hop on the Ardent gondola from Montriond, then board the mini train to the goat village. There are restaurants in the area too, should you wish to stay for lunch.
The Drêchère
Right in the centre of Morzine and reached easily from the swimming pool car park or the lift from the Super Morzine telecabine, the Drêchère is a lovely riverside area that’s ideal for a family adventure. There’s a playground, a small farm with pony rides and shady picnic spots alongside the river.
Nyon Waterfall and Fairy Tree Course
Nyon Waterfall is a 35-minute flat walk from Morzine centre and is also accessible by bus. A short forest trail leads to the falls, with paths running alongside the rushing water, so children should be carefully supervised as they take in the power of the cascade. Look up into the treetops and you may spot zipliners and rope courses overhead. Adding to the magic of this spot, the Fairy Parcours is a treetop adventure above the waterfall, designed to be explored freely without a harness and enclosed by safety nets throughout. Children can wander through themed huts, each offering something to see, smell or hear—keep an eye out for the elusive fairies said to live in the forest.
4) A pedestrianised village centre
The beating heart of Morzine village, the tourist office square is pedestrianised in summer, giving families the freedom to roam without the worry of traffic passing through. A traditional merry-go-round adds to the charm, and the square regularly plays host to live music and events throughout the season. The highlight for families is the Royaume des Marmots (Kingdom of the Marmots), a week-long festival that takes over the square each August. There’s a huge sand pit, face painting, creative workshops, outdoor games and live shows, all completely free and aimed at children from 18 months to 12 years old.
5) Kid-friendly restaurants and cafes
Let’s face it, eating out with little ones is not always stress-free. The question is often whether the luxury of not having to cook is worth the effort of supervising a lively toddler in a restaurant. In Morzine, you’ll be met with welcoming staff, kids’ menus and plenty of outdoor space where children can play while you relax and enjoy your meal.
One of our favourites is Le Cendrée, with a large enclosed garden often set up with a bouncy castle, trampolines, a slide, toys and a football table—perfect for a long, relaxed lunch. Another great option is Le Colibri, a relaxed café-bistro with a dedicated kids’ corner filled with books, toys and a play kitchen, making it an easy, welcoming choice for families.
6) A short travel time
Although nestled in the Alps at 1,000m, Morzine is one of the easiest Alpine resorts to reach from the UK. Flights to Geneva run daily throughout the year, then you can jump in a transfer which will drop you at the door of your chalet in around 90 minutes.
Driving is another popular option, with motorway routes taking you almost all the way from Calais. Travelling to Morzine by electric car is becoming increasingly easy thanks to France’s extensive charging network. You can also reach Morzine by train, combining the Eurostar with onward rail connections and a short transfer to the resort.
7) Chalets made for families
After a day of mountain adventures, having your own space to unwind is invaluable. Opting for a self catered chalet in Morzine gives you the flexibility to keep familiar routines, prepare family meals, and enjoy evenings together once the children are asleep.
AliKats’ chalets are designed with families in mind, with spacious en-suite bedrooms, generous storage, and a full range of baby and toddler essentials available—including cots, high chairs, sterilisers, changing mats, potties, toilet steps, bed guards and baby baths—helping you travel lighter and feel at home from the moment you arrive. Most of our chalets have outdoor space with a terrace for barbecuing.
If your idea of a family holiday is plenty of green space for little legs to run around on, lots of easy and fun things to do and a welcoming family vibe everywhere you go, Morzine is hard to beat. Browse our Morzine summer chalets to find your perfect base in the mountains.
