Getting around

Thanks to the convenient location of the best bars around Morzine, you can hit the apres either on the slopes or straight from the slopes at the bottom of the pistes at Pleney, Ardent or Super Morzine. Morzine’s free shuttle service will help you get back to your chalet after a few drinks, or if you’re staying with AliKats in a catered chalet, you have the benefit of a driver dedicated to your transport needs – you can request a lift from your chalet to one of these bars and arrange a pick up to get you home in time for dinner.

Slope-side

Le Tremplin

If skiing Pleney side, at the bottom of the gondola (or the blue Piste B or red Le Stade), you’ll find Le Tremplin, one of Morzine’s prime après ski spots. Come sundown live DJs take over the large outdoor bar area to draw in some of the biggest crowds in town. This super friendly spot also serves up some great food from its vibrantly decorated indoor restaurant and welcomes children.

La Folie Douce

The legendary après ski party brand, La Folie Douce, opened it’s doors in Avoriaz three seasons ago. It’s tried and tested formula of live DJs, cabaret and themed parties gets skiers raving on table tops everyday of the week. Open between 2 and 6:30pm, you’ll hear the tunes bursting from the terrace before you see the venue next to the Yeti restaurant on the Plateau in Avoriaz. Just make sure you leave in time for the last lift home, or save some energy for the ski down and grab a bus or shuttle back to town from the bottom of Prodains.

Happy Hours Bar

Claiming to host the ‘liveliest après ski party in Les Porte Du Soleil’, this slope-side bar transforms its terrace into a pumping festival atmosphere, where established DJs from across Europe deliver tunes to a crowd of seasonaires, locals and visitors. The bar packs out for ‘We Are The Apres’ on Wednesday afternoons, which is its biggest, most popular event of the week. This friendly party can be found at the bottom of the Ardent gondola, meaning you can have a few drinks without worrying about the ski home. What’s more, there’s a free shuttle bus running daily until 9pm to get you back to Morzine.

Live music

Cavern

If you’re a fan of live music, the Cavern’s music session from 5pm attracts some great bands and a lively crowd. Head here as early as 4pm and you’ll find the place packed out for its generous happy hour. Serving spirits, cocktails and with several self-service beer tables (operated by a card you top up at the bar), no one is left thirsty. The later live session, starting at 10pm, welcomes a host of international acts to the stage every night of the season (see their website for the line-up). This party venue gets packed out with skiers and locals of all ages. Even the most reserved customers are soon singing along to well-known classics and taking to the dance floor. Located in the centre of Morzine at 28, Taille de Mas du Pleney.

Beer

Bec Jaune Brewery

Once off the slopes, quench your thirst with a flavoursome craft beer. Take your pick from speciality beers, old styles ranging from IPAs to lagers and porters, and traditional German and French styles. It’s easy to while away a whole evening in this popular micro brewery, which also serves tasty snacks, meat dishes and some of the best vegetarian fayre in town. You’ll find ‘the Bec’ a short walk from the Pleney/ centre of town, next to the roundabout at 20 Route de la Combe à Zore.

Lounge bars and cocktails

Le Colibri

This versatile cafe bistro is open all-day and serves a wide ranging menu with everything from delicious breakfast pancakes and caffè lattes to large cheese plates for sharing and cocktails. Located on the way into town from the Pleney lift, this is a lovely spot to relax after skiing, with a kids play area to keep little ones entertained.

Le Club

A stylish lounge bar hidden under one of Morzine’s most prestigious restaurants ‘La Chamade’, with experienced bartenders creating a wide range of classic and inventive cocktails. This intimate little spot is a great place for pre-dinner drinks and sophisticated après well into the night. Live music and DJs add to the vibe in this new Morzinoise night venue. Le Club opens its doors 6 days a week, from 5 pm to 2 am!

Le Névé bar

This welcoming spot located in the recently restyled Névé Hotel, is perfect for low-key drinks with friends. The bar offers a wide selection of drinks, craft beers on tap and a superb menu of cocktails. Lounge on comfy sofas or perch on a stool at the bar – there’s plenty of space for all. Chips, cold meats and cheese plates are available, or book a table at the hotel’s restaurant Bertine to fill up on generous and tasty French cuisine.

After hours

Tibetan Cafe

A great all-round party bar which kicks off with dancing later in the evening until 2am. People of all ages dance to live DJ sets pumping out an accessible mix of well-known party tunes. Also located on the main strip of bars on Taille de Mas du Pleney.

L’Opera

Morzine’s biggest club and a bit of an institution. Music tends towards D&B, Latin, techno, house and electro. Fancy dress nights and international DJ sets are also hosted throughout the season. Open daily from 1am (midnight Fri/Sat) to 5am and located on the main strip of bars at 80, Taille de Mas du Pleney.

Montriond

La Marmotte d’Or

Montriond’s local bar is a friendly place for a drink, snack or casual meal, serving generous plates, sandwiches, veggie kebabs and burgers. The bar has a knack for finding and hiring some excellent bands to play throughout the season, and has a lovely terrace for a pint in the sun when the weather warms up. Located by the small shopping area in Montriond at 90, Route de Morzine.

Hotel du Lac

Situated on the shore of the stunning Lac Montriond, on the road from Montriond village to the Ardent (Avoriaz) ski lift, this friendly spot is worth a visit if only to admire its incredible setting. Stunning in winter and summer, the hotel offers a lovely view of the water, cliffs and forest reflections in this much-loved local beauty spot. Perfect for relaxed drinks or lazy Sunday afternoons, you’ll find a wide selection of wines, local beers and award winning cocktails at the bar. If wishing to eat in the restaurant, be sure to book ahead as this spot is increasingly popular with locals and visitors.

Wine

Bar a Vins (La Chaudanne)

This intimate wine bar is tucked away underneath La Chaudanne restaurant in a stone-walled cellar. It’s open everyday from 4pm, and you’ll find a sommelier with excellent knowledge and a wine menu with over 350 wines. Located at 590, Route de La Plagne; slightly out of town, but still easily walkable, this is a nice little spot for a cosy drink away from the crowds.

Le Coup de Coeur

A bustling little spot that can be accessed from the main square via the terrace – which has a handy view of the ice skating rink – or from Route de La Plagne opposite its big brother (and one of the best restaurants in town) La Chamade. It’s a great bar to pop into to warm up when you’re exploring the town or to kick off a sociable evening with friends before dinner at La Chamade.
