New Year 2023- 2024: Why Ski in Morzine?

October 16th, 2023 Holiday Tips, Morzine

Every New Year we make grand plans for fresh starts, adopting good habits and generally reinventing ourselves. But has your New Year ever fallen a bit flat? Ever wondered why you’ve been in your PJs since Christmas? Or found yourself on your mate’s sofa on NYE with a half-drunk glass of champagne considering going to bed at 10pm? We certainly have, and we have the answer: New Year ski holidays in Morzine!

Skiing into the New Year is an excellent way to dust off the cobwebs and make a fresh start. Not only does it allow you to treat yourself to a well-earned holiday, you can also spend time with friends, explore new and beautiful landscapes and, of course, ski every day!

We’ve compiled a quick guide to why a ski holiday in Morzine is the ultimate choice for a guaranteed brilliant New Year.

Top 5 reasons to choose Morzine for your New Year ski holiday

1. High altitude skiing

With snowfall varying each year, it can be tricky to judge where to base yourself. The best thing about skiing in Morzine is that it sits in the heart of the Porte du Soleil, which is one of the biggest ski resorts in Europe. As such, there is loads of high altitude skiing to be found, so you can guarantee a good time on the slopes every day. Morzine is well connected to Avoriaz, Chatel and Switzerland, which all sit around 2,000m so are the first to see the snow during those early season dumps.

2. Varied terrain for mixed groups

The Porte du Soleil is a fantastic place for skiing with your squad. From beginner greens and cruisey blues to technical reds and gnarly blacks, the terrain is extremely varied, and therefore suitable for people of all abilities. There are also miles of backcountry to explore if you fancy ski touring – not to mention the vast selection of bars and restaurants for that all-important après.

3.Excellent activities for non-skiers

If skiing isn’t your thing, or if you fancy a break for a day, Morzine has well and truly got you covered. There is a fantastic range of non-skiing activities to try, from mountain adventures like ski touring and snowshoeing to relaxing spas and yoga sessions. The foodie scene is pretty epic so it’s definitely worth checking out some of the best spots for food in your down time.

If you fancy a change of scenery, there are some beautiful places to explore outside of the valley. Some of our favourites include Sixt-Fer-Á-Cheval, a pretty little village which sits beside the magical Sixt Passy nature reserve. The beautiful Mediaeval town of Yvoire is a lovely spot on Lake Geneva, or if you’re missing a bit of city life, try Annecy for a vibrant hub of art, culture and history.

4. Luxury chalets

Our range of luxury chalets include catered and self catered options of various sizes from stylish apartment chalets to large luxury chalets. The sophisticated Chalet Debussy is perfect for two or three families (sleeping 8 adults and 7 kids) to enjoy five star service and exceptional food and wine. Modern and beautiful Chalet Soleil d’Or sleeps 8 adults and  is a pleasant stroll to two excellent bars in Montriond – The new Ibex Woodyard and the local’s favourite  apres spot La Marmotte D’or –   both great options for lively New Year celebrations.

If you’re thinking a bit bigger, bring your squad and welcome in the New Year in stunning Chalet Lumina, which has a bright and airy living space with five ensuite bedrooms. Its central but elevated location means that you’ll start 2024 on top of the world, with breathtaking views of the mountains and valley beyond. Check out our website for our full range of beautiful chalets available this winter.

5. Great party vibes

As we mentioned at the start of this guide, sometimes New Year’s Eve celebrations can fall a bit flat. But not in Morzine. New Year’s Eve here is one big celebration, starting with an epic day on the slopes with your favourite people. Come back to your luxury chalet where you’ll be met with fizz, canapes and a stunning seven course taster menu; then hit the town to welcome in the New Year in style. With fireworks, live music and endless good vibes, Morzine puts on a great show, and is guaranteed to leave you with fantastic memories that will last the whole year (and beyond!).
