Morzine bike park and the Portes du Soleil

Morzine connects riders with over 25 bike-friendly lifts, opening up more than 650km of mountain bike trails across the Portes du Soleil. The sheer scale and variety of accessible terrain is what makes riding here so incredible.

From Morzine, you can access the main riding areas of Pleney, Super Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Châtel, Champery and Morgins, each with their own distinct style of trails. Pleney is famous for its fast, technical downhill tracks and legendary roots, while Les Gets offers flowing jump lines and immaculate bike park shaping. Super Morzine and Avoriaz open up huge enduro terrain and scenic alpine singletrack, while Châtel is home to some of the most challenging downhill tracks in the region, including World Cup-level features.

There is genuinely something for everyone here — from beginner flow trails to world championship downhill tracks, skills areas and cross-country routes stretching between France and Switzerland. Whether you’re here for endless bike park laps, family adventures or exploring the quieter corners of the Portes du Soleil on an e-bike, it’s all entirely possible from Morzine.

Getting around and MTB Lift Passes

The efficiency of using chair lifts to gain elevation before hitting the huge number of trails in the Portes du Soleil means the amount of riding you can do in one week on a Morzine MTB holiday is simply mind-blowing. What’s more, it is all accessible under one lift pass! The PDS MTB lift pass includes more than 60 downhill trails, 25 lifts and 6 bike parks with riding across two countries. For 6 days of riding this offers incredible value, with the PDS area pass coming in at under €200 for an adult, €149 for a child and €176 for a young adult (16-25 years). There are loads of other lift pass options too including the Morzine beginner day pass staring at just €19 per person.

The PDS is relatively easy to navigate with official trails being signposted, combined with trail maps and apps such as strava and trail forks. All resorts are connected via lifts, meaning there is almost no pedalling required.

E-Mountain Biking and Enduro Trails

The rise of enduro riding and e-mountain bikes in recent years has opened up a whole new side of Morzine’s biking scene. Beyond the lift-served downhill tracks, there’s now more than 90 km of enduro trails to explore, winding through forests, alpine pastures and remote mountain terrain.

Many of these trails remain surprisingly quiet compared to the bike parks, making them ideal for riders looking to escape the crowds and experience a more natural, adventurous style of riding. With the extra assistance of an e-bike, longer climbs and bigger days in the saddle become far more accessible, allowing you to cover huge distances and discover parts of the Portes du Soleil that many visitors never see.

Hiring mountain bikes in Morzine

If your own bike isn’t quite up to the demands of Morzine’s world-class trails — or you simply want to avoid the hassle of travelling with it — there are plenty of excellent mountain bike rental shops in resort.

You’ll find a huge choice of high-quality bikes available to hire, including downhill bikes, enduro bikes, e-bikes and full-suspension kids’ bikes, along with all the protective gear and accessories you might need.

When to Go Mountain Biking in Morzine

The Mountain biking season in the Portes du Soleil runs from mid-June through to September, when the full lift network is open and the trails are at their best. However, many lifts are open earlier and later than the main season dates, with Pleney and Super Morzine lifts running from 12th June to the 13th September in 2026, so it’s worth checking out the summer lift opening dates.

July and August offer the warmest temperatures and the liveliest atmosphere in resort, with long days, dry trails and all lifts operating. Temperatures in the valley can feel hot during peak summer, while higher trails and lift-accessed terrain are usually far cooler and more comfortable for riding. If you need cooling off, a dip in Lac Montriond is always worth a refreshing detour.

June and early July is often a favourite for experienced riders, with quieter trails, cooler temperatures and lush alpine scenery as the mountains come into bloom. September is another excellent time to visit, bringing fewer crowds and tackier trail surfaces after cooler nights.

Getting to Morzine in Summer

Morzine’s closest airport is Geneva Airport, around 1 hour 15 minutes away by transfer, making it one of the most convenient mountain destinations in the Alps for mountain bikers.

For those driving, Morzine is easily accessible from the motorway network via Cluses and Taninges, with parking available right outside your AliKats chalet. You can also travel by train to nearby stations such as Cluses or Thonon-les-Bains before continuing to Morzine by transfer or bus.

Once you arrive, getting around is simple. Morzine’s lifts, trails, shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance of our central Morzine chalets.
