Hike, bike and enjoy family events on your summer holiday in Morzine

La Pass’Portes du Soleil VTT : 23rd -25th June

The Pass’Portes du Soleil is an organised event, designed to encourage people to explore the incredible Porte du Soleil. With a huge range of trails, lifts and refreshment spots, it’s the perfect way for mountain bikers of all abilities to experience the stunning trails and breathtaking landscape. The event isn’t a race, more an invitation to feel the energy of the mountains through the joy of a collective experience. Find out more information here.

L’Étape du Tour de France, 9th July 2023

The L’Étape du Tour de France is a yearly event, offering you the chance to cycle one of the iconic stages of the Tour de France under the same conditions as the Tour itself. The route is closed to cars; allowing you to push yourself to the limit and focus entirely on your performance. This year, the L’Étape du Tour de France showcases the route between Annemasse and Morzine; a gruelling 157km stretch which includes 4,197m of elevation and the ascents of Col de Saxel, Col de Cou, Col de Feu, Col de la Ramaz and Col de Joux Plane. Find out more information here.

Le Tour de France, 15th July

Le Tour de France needs no introduction. Arguably the most popular cycling race in Europe, Le Tour de France showcases some of the finest athletes and cycling routes in the world. In 2023, Morzine has the honour of hosting the end of the 14th stage – the route for which runs from Annemasse to Morzine. Whether you’re a cycling enthusiast or not, the energy of this event is palpable and not something to be missed. Find out more information here.

Adopte 1 Col! Joux Plane, 23rd July

‘Adopte 1 Col!’ is an organised cycling event, offering you the opportunity to climb the notorious Col de Joux Plane – a challenging route commonly featured in Le Tour de France. The roads are closed to cars, allowing you to tackle this route from either the Samoëns or Morzine side unimpeded. A refreshment station is there to meet you at the top, and rather than a race, the vibe is convivial and supportive; encouraging you to go at your own pace. Find out more information here.

Spartan Race, 1st and 2nd July

The Spartan Race Morzine is truly not for the faint of heart. Think trail running meets army boot camp meets Takeshi’s Castle, and you’ll be somewhere towards imagining what this gruelling race entails.

There are a variety of distances to choose from which cover the stunning and rugged landscapes of the mountains. These are combined with a series of obstacles aimed to challenge your strength, balance and endurance. This is an incredible race to run, and an impressive event to watch. Find out more information here

Trail des Hauts Forts, 5th August

The imposing profile of Hauts Forts dominates the landscape around Morzine. At 2,466 metres, it’s one of the highest mountains in the area and makes for a stunning backdrop to an intense trail race. The full Trail des Hauts Forts covers 50km of stunning mountain running, but there are also shorter options if you’re not quite feeling the full one. Find out more information here.

Morzine Royaume des Marmots, 24th – 28th July & 7th – 11th August

From music to themed workshops; animations to inflatable games, this event set in the heart of Morzine will delight you and your little ones again and again. Find out more information here.

Morzine Plage (Morzine Beach), 2nd & 3rd August

Now I imagine the heart of the French Alps isn’t exactly the first place you’d think of for a day at the beach, but for 2 days in August that’s exactly where it’ll be! Complete with deck chairs, candyfloss and bucket and spades, the Morzine Beach has everything you need for a day in the sunshine. Alongside these you’ll also find creative workshops, games, face painting and more; so there really is something for everyone. Find out more information here.

Morzine-Montriond Triathlon, 26th August

For those of you keen to push yourselves whilst marvelling at the stunning landscape of the Alps, the Morzine – Montriond Triathlon is the one for you. The organisers are committed to offering an event that is fun and inclusive for everyone; and brings awareness to the preservation of nature and the surrounding environment. The route includes a swim in the breathtaking (literally) Lac Montriond, and finish line in Avoriaz. Find out more information here.

Mont Blanc Rally, 31st August – 2nd September

Calling all petrol-heads. For three days at the end of summer, we say goodbye to the tranquillity of hiking and calm focus of road cycling, and say hello to a full-throttle display of expert driving, keen navigation, and adrenaline-fuelled engineering. Even if cars aren’t your thing, this event is an impressive display of skill and design. Find out more information here.
