Transforming any business into an eco-friendly operation is no mean feat, let alone a ski company founded within an industry that paradoxically contributes to the issues that threaten the mountain environment it depends upon. But how do you re-imagine a business that has traditionally relied on air travel, indulgent meat-heavy catering, hot tubs and the creation, maintenance and heating of luxury properties in a below freezing environment?

From the messy trials and errors of composting to achieve zero food waste, to carbon tracking, renewable energy and the challenges of decarbonizing guest travel, Al’s outlook is both realistic and progressive, coming from a place of passion, experience and genuine concern for our future planet.

Al and his wife Kat helped launch the charity Montagne Verte, a brand new concept leading environmental change in the mountains. The non-profit is making huge steps in turning Morzine into a sustainable mountain resort, one in which the mountains, people and biodiversity thrive.

Al is also a Sustainable Strategy Lead for Seasonal Business in Travel (SBIT), where he is focussed on developing sustainable strategy for the industry as a whole.

Al is an engaging speaker with a wide range of interests, and hosts his own video series ‘Chairlift Chats’ where he interviews interesting people from a ski lift!
